A stream of eager music listeners came along to Thirsk Hall’s stunning sculpture garden to see and hear the opening event of the de Mowbray Music Festival 2025 in the glorious sunshine in a sculptured marquee and a grand sculptural setting.
Inside the magically lit canopy ten musicians and three vocalists played and sang a wonderful night at the musicals.
Well known international award winning Musical Director Ben Ellin and Project Manager Emily Taylor have organized a four day fun packed music festival for Thirsk, bringing the professional musical theatrical experience to Thirsk.
Led by Director Daniel McLaughlin, vocalists Eleanor Sanders, Tom Wright and Elizabeth Atkinson were accompanied by a community choir and superb musicians for a show of timeless classics. Herriot Hospice was on hand to raise attention to the local hospice and refreshments were provided by Van Chaud.
Thirsk church once more opened its doors on Friday evening to an exciting performance of Verdi’s well known Requiem.
Ben Ellin conducted a small Festival orchestra, with choral director Barnaby Sladden and leader Cleo Annandale.
The majestic organ was played by William Dore, before Durham Voices Choir, ex graduates of Durham University, and soloists, soprano Liliana Banev, Ella McAvoy mezzo soprano, Adam Whitmore as bass and tenor Tom Klafkowski.
